FSU Basketball Set for Historic Tampa Clash vs. FAMU
13 May
Summary
- FSU and FAMU basketball teams will meet for the first time since 1991.
- The game will be played in Tampa to start the regular season.
- Both coaches expressed a desire for an annual series between programs.

For the first time since 1991, Florida State and Florida A&M will compete in a regular-season basketball game. This historic meeting is slated to occur in Tampa, kicking off the upcoming season. The contest is part of a doubleheader, which will also feature Florida playing Miami.
While this marks the initial regular-season encounter between the Seminoles and the Rattlers since a notable incident in 1991, the two teams did play in a preseason exhibition last October. During that event, Rattlers head coach and FSU legend Charlie Ward was honored with a jersey retirement.
Both Coach Ward and Seminoles head coach Luke Loucks have publicly expressed their wish for an annual series between the two programs. The upcoming game in Tampa represents a crucial step in realizing that ambition. However, its location means Tallahassee will have to wait at least another season to host a regular-season showdown.
In Coach Loucks' debut season, Florida State recorded an 18-15 record, concluding with an ACC tournament quarterfinal loss to Duke. Coach Ward's first season at FAMU saw the Rattlers finish 15-16 and reach the SWAC tournament semifinals, where they were defeated by Southern.
