Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has inaugurated free Summer Sports Coaching Camps, set to train more than 12,000 children across 41 sports disciplines. The program commenced on Sunday, with training sessions scheduled to begin on May 25 at various city stadiums. A total of 486 expert coaches will guide the young participants.
The ten-day camps will run daily from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. until June 6. However, sessions will not be held on May 29 and May 31 due to government holidays. GVMC has organized these camps to identify and nurture sports talent from an early age, a program that was paused for two years.
Each participant will receive a daily nutritional supplement including an egg, biscuits, a protein snack, and drinking water. Additionally, every child will be provided with a T-shirt and a participation certificate upon completion. The GVMC has ensured the availability of necessary sports equipment and first-aid facilities at all training locations.
Officials emphasized the importance of sports for physical fitness and mental well-being, encouraging parents to support their children's interests. Daily monitoring by Zonal Commissioners will ensure the smooth conduct of the camps, with instructions issued for timely diet supply, adequate water, sanitation, and healthcare.
