Fred Wright, the new British National Road Champion, is preparing for his sixth Tour de France appearance with renewed ambition. He recently secured his second national champion's jersey, a victory that came after a three-year hiatus from winning. Wright expressed that the win felt "really special" and boosted his confidence for the upcoming Grand Tour.
Now racing for Tour debutants Pinarello Q36.5, Wright aims to contend for stage wins. He has a history of leading breakaways and achieving top-10 finishes in Grand Tours. "I'm always going to be at the start line of a Grand Tour wanting to win a stage," he stated.
The Pinarello Q36.5 team, managed by Doug Ryder, plans a proactive approach at the Tour. Led by Tom Pidcock, the squad will seek daily opportunities. Wright indicated he will support Pidcock but also plans to target specific stages himself, feeling he is in "very good shape" for the challenge.
