VanVleet's Return Ignites Rockets' Offense
1 Oct
Summary
- Fred VanVleet's return signals a major offensive boost for Houston.
- VanVleet's playmaking will improve spacing for teammates like Sengun.
- Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson will benefit from VanVleet's presence.
Fred VanVleet's full clearance for preseason marks a substantial boost for the Houston Rockets' offense. His return is expected to address the team's struggles with a lack of an elite floor general and playmaker, which hampered their offensive fluidity last season.
VanVleet's presence is particularly beneficial for Alperen Sengun, who thrives with a disciplined guard facilitating short-roll opportunities. Defenses respecting VanVleet's shooting will offer Sengun more favorable matchups, potentially increasing his scoring efficiency.
Kevin Durant is also set to gain from VanVleet handling ball-handling duties. This will allow Durant to conserve energy and benefit from cleaner looks, as opposing defenses can no longer solely focus on him.
Amen Thompson will also see an improved offensive role. With VanVleet orchestrating, Thompson can leverage his driving abilities for more high-percentage finishes rather than relying on contested self-created shots.
