Former Jets Star Nick Mangold Seeks Kidney Transplant After Lifelong Condition

On October 15, 2025, former New York Jets center Nick Mangold, a beloved figure in the team's history, announced that he is battling kidney disease and is in need of a transplant. Mangold, a two-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection, was diagnosed with a genetic defect in 2006 that has led to chronic kidney disease.

After over a decade of managing the condition, Mangold's health has now reached a critical point, and he is currently on dialysis while waiting for a suitable donor. The 38-year-old, who was inducted into the Jets' "Ring of Honor" just last year, expressed his gratitude to the Jets and Ohio State communities, saying he is "staying positive and focused on the path ahead."

Mangold, who started all 164 games he played during his 11-year NFL career, is now publicly appealing for a donor with type O blood to come forward and help him regain his health. "I am deeply grateful to anyone that would consider donating," he said, acknowledging that he does not have any relatives who are able to provide a kidney.
