Sophomore Slump: Florida QB Lagway Struggles to Deliver on Hype

As of October 18th, 2025, Florida quarterback DJ Lagway's highly anticipated sophomore season has taken an unexpected turn, becoming one of the biggest storylines in college football for all the wrong reasons. Lagway, who was expected to make a major leap this year, has instead been listed among Sports Illustrated's 12 most disappointing players at the midway point of the 2025 season.

Despite moments of progress, Lagway has failed to deliver the consistency many had hoped for. While his completion percentage has improved, almost every other metric has trended in the wrong direction. Lagway's touchdown rate is down, he has thrown seven interceptions (two away from matching his total last season), and his quarterback rating has dipped 25 points compared to his freshman campaign.

Notably, Lagway has struggled with the deep ball, completing just 6 of 19 passes over 20 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions, according to Pro Football Focus.
