Summary

- Fitzpatrick's caddie delivered a crucial message before the playoff hole.
- Rory McIlroy's Masters playoff situation served as inspiration.
Matt Fitzpatrick emerged victorious at the RBC Heritage, defeating Scottie Scheffler in a dramatic playoff. Fitzpatrick had entered the final round with a commanding three-shot lead but a surprising bogey on the 72nd hole, leaving his chip shot short, forced a playoff. World number one Scheffler was considered the favorite in the subsequent hole.
However, Fitzpatrick's caddie, Daniel Parratt, offered words of encouragement that helped the golfer quickly refocus. Parratt reminded Fitzpatrick that securing a playoff spot was a positive outcome they would have accepted at the start of the week. This exchange, drawing a lighthearted parallel to Rory McIlroy's experience at the Masters last year, proved instrumental in Fitzpatrick's mindset. He then delivered an exceptional shot with a four iron to secure his win.
