Head coach Hossam Hassan and player Mostafa Ziko made strong accusations against FIFA, alleging that the tournament was "rigged" to ensure Argentina's qualification. The Egyptian Football Association confirmed its awareness of FIFA's actions against Hassan, Ziko, and team manager Ibrahim Hassan. This follows a separate incident where goalkeeping coach Saafan Al-Sagheer was fined for protesting referee decisions.

Prior to these proceedings, Egypt had filed a formal complaint with FIFA concerning the officiating during the round of 16 match. Key controversies included the disallowing of Ziko's second-half goal and the denial of a penalty appeal for Mohamed Salah in the opponent's box during the build-up to Argentina's winning goal.
