Ferrari's 'Flip-Flop' Wing to Debut in China
12 Mar
Summary
- Ferrari's novel rotating rear wing will debut in practice.
- The wing completely flips upside down, surprising rivals.
- Lewis Hamilton expressed excitement about Ferrari's upgrades.

Ferrari will introduce its groundbreaking 'flip-flop' rear wing during Friday's practice session for the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix. This innovative aerodynamic component, which completely inverts its orientation rather than merely adjusting its angle, caused considerable surprise among rival teams during pre-season testing in Bahrain. Haas driver Ollie Bearman even reported initial disbelief, thinking something was wrong with the car when he first witnessed its operation.
The component, also informally nicknamed the 'Macarena wing', was not initially expected until later in the season. Lewis Hamilton, now in his first year with Ferrari, highlighted the team's dedication, "It's great to see that the team are fighting, the team are pushing, the team are chasing, really working overtime back at the factory to bring the upgrades." He emphasized his happiness with the current cars, finding them more enjoyable to drive than previous models.
The Shanghai circuit, known for its long back straight where speeds can exceed 340 kph, presents an ideal opportunity to test aerodynamic efficiencies. Pundits suggest the wing's unique design may not only reduce drag but also generate lift when inverted, potentially offering a competitive advantage. Hamilton noted no perceived difference in its deployment during Bahrain testing.
