Ferrari Shifts 2026 F1 Testing Focus to Reliability Over Speed
5 Jan
Summary
- Ferrari will prioritize car reliability and mileage over performance in 2026 tests.
- Nine days of pre-season testing are scheduled, an increase from recent years.
- The 2026 regulations include significant engine and chassis overhauls without DRS.

Ferrari is set to adopt a new strategy for the 2026 Formula 1 pre-season testing, focusing primarily on reliability and accumulating mileage rather than raw performance. Team principal Fredric Vasseur explained that the increased nine days of testing this year necessitates a different program, especially after Ferrari's challenging 2025 season where performance testing led to ongoing reliability concerns.
The initial five-day test in Barcelona, scheduled for late January, will be conducted privately. It will serve as a crucial period for gathering data on the car's dependability and identifying areas for improvement before the season commences. This contrasts with previous years where performance was the main objective during limited testing windows.
