FC Dallas forward Sam Sarver has made a significant impact in recent weeks, often coming off the bench to change games. On Saturday, Sarver scored the decisive goal in a 3-2 road victory against the San Jose Earthquakes, a top team in the Western Conference. His celebration included a playful scuba diver imitation, inspired by a former college coach's anecdote.
The festivities continued when Sarver was doused with beer by San Jose fans. He responded by grabbing a can, puncturing it, and downing the contents in front of the cameras, adding another memorable layer to his celebration. This dual celebration has drawn comparisons to historic soccer incidents.
Notably, Willie Johnston of the Vancouver Whitecaps in 1979 famously drank a fan's beer before assisting a goal against the same San Jose Earthquakes. More recently, Roger Levesque performed a similar scuba celebration in 2009. Sarver's actions have added a new chapter to these unique soccer traditions.
