Summary
- Hamburg permanently reacquired Fábio Vieira for approximately €9m.
- Vieira had a successful loan spell in the 2025/26 season.
- This transfer is part of Hamburg's ambitious €30m+ summer spending.

Hamburg has successfully secured the permanent return of Fábio Vieira from Arsenal for approximately €9m. Vieira, who was last season's most influential creative player, has signed a long-term deal with the club.
This transfer marks the culmination of a lengthy pursuit. Hamburg had previously allowed a €22m purchase option to expire and declined Arsenal's reduced asking price of €18m, opting instead to negotiate a lower fee.
Vieira joined Hamburg on loan from Arsenal on deadline day of the previous summer and quickly became the team's central creative force. His move to a more central role in September 2025 significantly impacted Hamburg's offensive capabilities, leading to a strong performance throughout the 2025/26 Bundesliga season.
Vieira concluded the 2025/26 campaign with seven goals and five assists, contributing 13 goal contributions in 31 appearances across all competitions. His return was a priority for coach Merlin Polzin, who had openly expressed his appreciation for the player's presence.
The permanent signing of Vieira for €9m is part of Hamburg's substantial investment this summer, which also includes Zakaria El Ouahdi for an €8m base fee. These acquisitions push Hamburg's total summer spending beyond €30m, raising their estimated squad value to approximately €150m.
