Jeff Hafley was formally interviewed on Thursday for the vacant head coach position with the Atlanta Falcons. The 46-year-old coach brings experience from his recent two-season stint as defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. Prior to that, he led Boston College as head coach from 2020 to 2023, following a role as co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State in 2019.
Hafley is the seventh individual to interview for the Falcons' top coaching job. Other notable candidates have included former head coaches John Harbaugh, Mike McDaniel, and Kevin Stefanski. However, reports suggest Harbaugh may be headed to the New York Giants. The Falcons have also spoken with Anthony Weaver, Klint Kubiak, and Aden Durde.
The Falcons finished the recent season tied for the NFC South lead. Despite a strong finish, winning their last four games after being eliminated from playoff contention, owner Arthur Blank decided to part ways with head coach Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot. The team recently hired former MVP quarterback Matt Ryan as its new president of football.
