F1 Azerbaijan: Saturday Race, Friday Qualifying!
25 Sep
Summary
- Azerbaijan hosts F1 qualifying on Friday for a Saturday race.
- Lando Norris aims for pole after a disappointing Spanish Grand Prix.
- Kimi Antonelli extended his championship lead significantly in Spain.
Formula 1 heads to Azerbaijan for a unique weekend schedule, with qualifying set for Friday and the race on Saturday. This shift is due to Sunday being observed as Azerbaijan's Remembrance Day. Two weeks prior, Lando Norris secured pole position in Spain but lost a near-certain victory because of a virtual safety car deployed just after he passed the pit entry.
This timing allowed competitors, including Kimi Antonelli, to make a pit stop with minimal time loss. Antonelli, already leading the championship, further extended his advantage to 81 points with his win. Norris will aim to bounce back and secure pole position, marking his fourth in five races, while Lewis Hamilton seeks to reignite his outside title hopes after a previous retirement.
George Russell, currently second in the standings, faces a significant gap to his Mercedes teammate but will be looking to showcase strong form. The focus remains on whether Antonelli can maintain his impressive performance and continue his stellar season.
