26 Mar
Summary
- Two former Mountaineers made MLB Opening Day rosters.
- Top prospect Wetherholt joins Cardinals; Scott also on roster.
- Several other former players are in Triple-A or recovering.

Major League Baseball's Opening Day features former Mountaineers making significant strides. Two former West Virginia players have secured spots on MLB Opening Day rosters. Jordan Wetherholt, the Cardinals' top prospect and fifth-best in all of baseball, has made the big league club. He is set to begin his journey with the Red Birds against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Another former Mountaineer, Scott, also made the Cardinals' roster. Despite a struggle with consistency at the plate last season, his speed and glove are expected to keep him in the lineup. Several other former players are currently at the highest level of the minors, with Means, Bergert, and Strowd having prior big league experience.
Updates on other former players include Alek Manoah, who is currently on the 15-day IL with a blister after a difficult spring training with the Angels. Michael Grove, a World Series winner with the Dodgers in 2024, remains a free agent after undergoing shoulder surgery last March.
