Malkin Signs New Deal: Penguins' Icon Stays!

Evgeni Malkin has agreed to a new one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, extending his tenure with the franchise through the 2026-27 season. The deal carries a cap hit of $5.5 million. This decision marks a significant shift from previous indications that Malkin might not return, largely due to his strong performance in the past season.

Malkin's resurgence, featuring 19 goals and 61 points in 56 games while playing on the right wing, played a crucial role in convincing management. He will enter his 21st season with the Penguins, a milestone surpassed only by Sidney Crosby. His chemistry with forward Egor Chinakhov and guidance helped the team reach the postseason.

The veteran forward, who will be 40 on July 31, has been a cornerstone of the Penguins for two decades. His career statistics include 533 goals and 1,407 points. Malkin is a three-time Stanley Cup champion and won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2009. Despite past durability concerns, his productivity has remained high, averaging a point per game or better in 16 of his 20 seasons.
