England Star Disputes Player of the Series Award
6 Aug
Summary
- Harry Brook disagrees with being named Player of the Series
- Joe Root scored more runs than Brook in the 5-match series
- England and India coaches selected opposing players for the award

According to the news, the recently concluded 5-match Test series between England and India ended in a 2-2 draw. As per the tradition, the coaches of each team selected one player from the opposing side as the Player of the Series.
While England head coach Brendon McCullum chose India captain Shubman Gill, India coach Gautam Gambhir opted for England's Harry Brook as the standout performer. However, Brook himself has now disagreed with this decision, stating that his teammate Joe Root should have been awarded the honor.
Brook played a destructive innings of 111 runs off just 98 balls in the final Test, putting England on the brink of a record chase. But despite his heroics, Root amassed a total of 537 runs at an average of 67.12 across the 5-match series, outperforming Brook's tally of 481 runs at 53.44.
"I didn't score as many runs as Rooty (Joe Root), so I probably think he should be Man of the Series -- and Man of the Summer again, like he has been for many years," Brook told the BBC.
The series has been described as an "awesome" one, with the final result of 2-2 being unexpected. Both teams will now look to build on the positives from this closely-fought encounter.
