Hall of Famer: Browns must pick Sanders at QB

Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith has publicly stated that the Cleveland Browns should name Shedeur Sanders as their starting quarterback for the 2026 season. Appearing on "Up & Adams," Smith questioned the ongoing debate surrounding the position, especially when considering other quarterbacks like Drake Maye and Justin Herbert were handed starting roles after being top draft picks.

Smith pointed out the Browns' lack of other established quarterback talent, contrasting it with the opportunities given to other highly drafted players. He noted that after initial struggles with Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel in the previous season, Sanders led the team to a 3-4 record over seven starts. Despite throwing for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, Sanders earned a Pro Bowl replacement spot, indicating recognition of his performance.

Unless the Browns acquire another quarterback during the offseason, Sanders is expected to be the leading candidate for the starting job. Smith's comments highlight a perceived lack of clarity and decision-making regarding the team's quarterback situation for the upcoming year.
