QB to TE: Stowers' NFL Draft Dream Realized

Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers, originally a standout quarterback from Denton Guyer, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Stowers initially excelled as a quarterback, leading Guyer to a state runner-up finish in 2019. He then made a pivotal decision to switch to tight end in college, a move that proved highly successful.

During his collegiate career, Stowers earned the prestigious John Mackey Award in 2025, recognizing him as the top tight end in America. He led all FBS tight ends with 769 receiving yards that season and accumulated 1,407 yards and nine touchdowns over two years at Vanderbilt. Beyond athletics, Stowers was also a remarkable scholar, becoming the first Vanderbilt player to win the William V. Campbell Trophy.

Stowers' path to the NFL included previous stints at Texas A&M and New Mexico State before transferring to Vanderbilt. His earlier career as a quarterback at Denton Guyer was marked by impressive statistics, accounting for 47 touchdowns and 4,113 yards of total offense before a 2019 injury.
