Egypt, Iran Clash Over Pride Match in Seattle

Egypt and Iran have expressed objections to their upcoming football match being designated as Seattle's Pride Match. Egyptian coach Hossam Hassan stated that his team's primary concern is the on-field football performance, highlighting their commitment to respect and fair play in accordance with FIFA's regulations. Local organizers had planned the designation prior to the group stage draw, and discussions intensified once the Egypt versus Iran matchup was confirmed.

Both nations reportedly do not align with the values of Pride Fest, which is scheduled for this weekend in Seattle. This festival is a significant event celebrating the LGBTQI+ community with a parade and various concerts. Despite the teams' protests to FIFA against the Pride Match plan, the designation by local organizers remained. Egypt currently leads Group G with four points, followed by Iran in second place with two points.
