Undrafted Cooper Dominates Eagles Training
11 Aug
Summary
- Darius Cooper, an undrafted player, is a standout receiver.
- Several key players are sidelined with hamstring injuries.
- Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson attended practice for HBCU Week.

The Philadelphia Eagles' ninth summer practice and first preseason week have been marked by the emergence of second-year receiver Darius Cooper. Cooper, an undrafted player who recorded only nine catches last season, has been a consistent standout, demonstrating an ability to run open and make contested grabs. Coach Nick Sirianni noted that trust and consistent performance, even in a "dirty work" role, are key to a player graduating to a more prominent position.
The Eagles are also navigating several injuries. Cam Jurgens returned to practice, but Britain Covey was limited with a hamstring issue, while Makai Lemon and DeVonta Smith remain sidelined with similar injuries. Johnny Wilson is new to the injury report with a knee issue, and cornerback Jonathan Jones is out with a shoulder problem.
Former Eagles stars Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson were present to promote "One Philly HBCU Week" in October, an event that will feature four historically black colleges and universities playing at the Eagles' stadium. The marquee matchup is Norfolk State vs. Delaware State.
During the session, an 11-on-11 rep led to a scuffle between guard Tyler Steen and defensive tackle Ty Williams, which was quickly broken up. Quarterback Jalen Hurts showcased precision with a deep pass to Elijah Moore, but later had a pass intercepted by rookie Quinyon Mitchell, his second interception off Hurts this summer.
Injuries continued to surface as Willie Lampkin and Eli Stowers headed to the medical tent. Lampkin has been impressing coaches with his versatility and athleticism, while Stowers is still being evaluated for his potential role in the passing game.
In a late-game simulation, Hurts connected with Moore for a touchdown pass across his body, though some defensive players argued he wouldn't have had the time in a real game scenario. The Eagles will return to practice on Tuesday.
