Dutch Striker Zirkzee Eyeing Roma Switch to Boost World Cup Hopes
17 Nov
Summary
- Joshua Zirkzee wants to leave Manchester United for Roma in January
- Lack of playing time at United has pushed him down the pecking order
- Move to Roma could increase his chances of making the Netherlands national team

According to reports, Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee has expressed his desire to leave Manchester United and join Serie A club Roma in the upcoming January transfer window. The 24-year-old has found himself on the fringes of the first team at Old Trafford, having made just five substitute appearances so far this season.
The arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the summer have apparently pushed Zirkzee down the pecking order in Ruben Amorim's squad. Zirkzee, who joined United from Bologna in 2024 for £36.5 million, is now keen to secure a move to Roma, where he is reportedly guaranteed a starting spot.
The potential move to Roma could be crucial for Zirkzee's international aspirations. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the Dutch forward is eager to secure regular playing time at a top European club to increase his chances of being called up by the Netherlands national team.
Roma are also said to be interested in finalizing a deal with Manchester United as soon as possible, as it would give their manager Gian Piero Gasperini the best options available for potential Champions League qualification. Should the two clubs agree on a transfer, Zirkzee will be expected to hit the ground running at Roma due to his previous experience in the Italian top flight with Parma and Bologna.
