Dustin Poirier Seeks Help After Arrest

Retired mixed martial arts fighter Dustin Poirier was arrested earlier this week in Atlanta, Georgia, for alleged public drunkenness. The 37-year-old, who concluded a 16-year career last year, was released on bail following his apprehension. Body camera footage released by police shows an agitated Poirier threatening an officer at an airport.

Poirier has since stated on Instagram that he is seeking help, admitting that retirement from fighting has been challenging and that alcohol has not been a solution. He expressed a commitment to getting his mind right and taking positive next steps, recognizing the impact on his family. Public drunkenness is a misdemeanor offense in Georgia, punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

Poirier retired as a former UFC interim lightweight champion, widely respected for his career which included wins over notable fighters. He made his UFC debut in 2011 and retired with 22 wins in 32 fights. Beyond his fighting accomplishments, he is also known for his charitable work in Louisiana.
