Fifth-year Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer has secured another commitment for the 2027 recruiting class, with Hillgrove High School's Asa Montgomery announcing his offer from the Blue Devils on Wednesday. Montgomery, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound small forward, is recognized as a top-tier talent in the 2027 cycle.
Ranked No. 28 overall, No. 8 among small forwards, and No. 4 in Georgia by the 247Sports Composite, Montgomery has seen a significant jump in his rankings over the past year. Scouts praise his instincts, defensive capabilities, and willingness to contribute with "little things," alongside a clear upside for development into a versatile two-way player.
Montgomery has been on Duke's radar since at least the summer, with coaches observing him in Nike EYBL play. He also recently competed as a Team USA teammate to current Duke freshman Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje during the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup. Duke's 2027 recruiting class, which already includes Kager Knueppel, is currently ranked No. 8 nationally.
