Lancaster suggested some reporting was driven by personal agendas and fell below the standard expected for the sport.

However, NRL personality Braith Anasta strongly refuted the chairman's statements. Anasta asserted that Lancaster's comments were an attempt to divert attention from his own leadership deficiencies and poor decisions. He described the chairman's press conference as lacking backbone and accountability, particularly in light of the club setting records for consecutive losses.
