The newly opened Dothan Pickleball Complex, a significant $6 million investment featuring 25 covered courts, has experienced remarkable success in its first month. City officials report over 12,300 visits, averaging approximately 382 per day, with weekends and Mondays/Wednesdays being the busiest.
This state-of-the-art facility draws enthusiasts not only from the local Wiregrass area but also from the Florida panhandle, Georgia, and central/north Alabama. The complex, built as part of a $15 million upgrade to RIP Hewes Stadium, replaced outdated tennis courts, enhancing Dothan's amenities without requiring new land acquisition.
Beyond recreational use, the complex is poised to become a tournament hub, with two to three state tournaments scheduled for the fall and more anticipated in 2027. These events are projected to boost Dothan's economy and help the facility pay for itself over time. Officials also highlight the sport's ability to unite all ages and promote exercise and social interaction.
