Dolphins Preseason Finale: Roster Cuts Loom as Tough Decisions Await
20 Aug
Summary
- Dolphins' preseason record: 1 win, 1 tie
- Roster to be trimmed from 90 to 53 players by Aug. 26
- Three players identified as potential cut candidates: Erik Ezukanma, Jackson Carman, Matt Dickerson

As the Miami Dolphins prepare to enter their fourth season under coach Mike McDaniel, the team is just one game away from concluding their 2025 preseason. The Dolphins have won one and tied the other in their first two exhibition games, and now they will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in their final preseason matchup at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
With the Aug. 26 deadline looming, the Dolphins' coaching staff and front office, led by GM Chris Grier, will have to make some tough decisions as they trim their roster from 90 players down to 53. Among the players who are considered cut candidates are wide receiver Erik Ezukanma, offensive tackle Jackson Carman, and defensive lineman Matt Dickerson.
Ezukanma, a fourth-round pick in 2022, has struggled to make an impact in his first three years with the Dolphins, catching just one pass for three yards. With the team's receiving corps already stacked with the likes of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and others, Ezukanma's chances of making the final roster appear slim.
Carman, a former second-round pick, was re-signed by the Dolphins in March, but he was expected to compete for a reserve role on the offensive line. With the recent addition of veteran lineman Daniel Brunskill, Carman's spot on the 53-man roster is now in jeopardy.
Dickerson, who joined the Dolphins' practice squad last October, has played in just four games for the team, recording 42 tackles, three tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits in his career. With the Dolphins' defensive tackle depth chart already set, Dickerson faces an uphill battle to make the final roster.
