Weaver, a former candidate for the Saints' head coaching position, was overlooked in favor of Kellen Moore, whose team has since struggled mightily. The Saints have been eliminated from playoff contention by Week 13, with their offense performing poorly.

During a recent game, Weaver's defense held the Saints to a mere 63 total yards in the first half, a franchise low not seen in 50 years. This defensive performance highlighted the offensive struggles under Moore, who has led the NFL's worst red zone offense and least effective short-yardage unit.

Moore's tenure has been marked by significant setbacks, including a 2-10 start. Weaver's unit, in contrast, has been on a hot streak, contributing to the Dolphins' recent success. The Saints' decision to prioritize Moore over a defensive-minded coach like Weaver has evidently not yielded the desired results.
