In the lead-up to the 2025 NFL season, Miami Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones has been working on a new, more aggressive defensive technique. This change has been evident in his recent practice sessions, including a tough outing against the Detroit Lions' wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Jones acknowledged that the practice footage of him being "cooked" by St. Brown has been widely shared on social media. However, he remains unfazed, stating that the experience has helped him grow and learn new skills. "I got better from that and I'm learning a technique that I'm not used to doing, so he made me better," Jones said.
The Dolphins' defensive coordinator, Anthony Weaver, has been encouraged by Jones' progress. Weaver explained that the team is trying to "force offenses to be off schedule" by disrupting routes and putting hands on receivers. This approach is a departure from what Jones is accustomed to, but Weaver believes the cornerback will adapt and make plays for the team this season.
"Jack to me is a juice guy," Weaver said. "He's a guy that feeds and plays well off of energy, so when he makes a play, your defense is going to feed off of it and the opponents are going to hear it, too."
With the regular season less than three weeks away, the Dolphins are confident that Jones will continue to grow comfortable with the new, more aggressive defensive strategy. As the team prepares to take the field, they're hoping that Jones' development will pay dividends and help them disrupt opposing offenses.
