Sheehan's Rotation Spot on Thin Ice?

Emmet Sheehan's role in the Dodgers' pitching rotation faces increasing uncertainty as the team anticipates the arrivals of several key pitchers. Despite previously having few viable alternatives, Sheehan's recent performance, including a rough outing on Sunday where he allowed five runs in 2 2/3 innings, has highlighted recurring issues.

His fastball velocity, a persistent concern throughout the season, averaged a career-low 93.3 mph in his latest start. He also surrendered a season-high three home runs in a single inning. While Sheehan has shown flashes of potential, generating significant swings and misses, his inability to consistently deliver solid starts has resulted in a 5.29 ERA over 20 starts.

The Dodgers are preparing for significant reinforcements to their pitching staff. Tarik Skubal is scheduled for his Dodgers debut on Tuesday. Blake Snell is nearing his return after completing his final rehab start on the same day, potentially rejoining the team the following week. Tyler Glasnow is also expected to complete his rehab assignment by the end of August.

As Skubal integrates into the rotation, Eric Lauer will move out of his starting spot. However, another starter will likely need to make way for Snell's return. Given his performance trends, Emmet Sheehan is considered a potential candidate to lose his rotation position.
