Disc Golf Season Ignites Despite Icy Winds
19 Mar
Summary
- Disc golf season commenced with the St. Patty's Day Meltdown tournament.
- Cold March weather forced cancellation of the second tournament round.
- Players competed across 13 divisions for iconic trophies.

The early March chill could not deter disc golf enthusiasts from participating in the St. Patty's Day Meltdown, marking the unofficial start of Northern Colorado's disc golf season. This annual tournament, hosted by the North Gate Disc Golf Club on March 14-15, 2026, saw players competing across 13 divisions. Significant sponsors, including Play It Again Sports, Salt Road Brewing, Costco, Lowe's, and Whole Foods, supported the event.
Tournament director John Reed noted the event's deep roots, with sanctioned play dating back to at least 2009 and unsanctioned origins from 2006. Unfortunately, severe weather on March 15th, including freezing winds, resulted in the cancellation of the second round. Despite the shortened competition, champions were crowned in various divisions, from top professionals in MPO and FPO to amateur and age-based categories, all receiving coveted St. Patty's Day Meltdown trophies.
