17 Mar
Summary
- Brooks cited for driving 85 mph in a 45 mph zone.
- Officer concerned about extreme collision risk.
- Reckless driving citation issued for speed 35+ mph over limit.

Phoenix Suns player Dillon Brooks was cited for reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit on January 12, just weeks before his DUI arrest. An officer observed Brooks driving 85 mph in a 45 mph zone around midnight. The officer expressed serious concern about the potential for a catastrophic collision, given the speed and proximity to businesses.
Body camera footage shows Brooks confirming he was pulled over for speeding. He was subsequently issued a citation for reckless driving, as his speed was deemed significantly over the legal limit. Despite the serious nature of the infraction, Brooks, who was with a female companion, was not arrested at the time and his vehicle was not towed.
This incident occurred prior to Brooks' DUI arrest earlier this month. He was stopped in Scottsdale for traffic violations and subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Records indicate the DUI arrest was not alcohol-related, with Brooks reportedly registering a 0.0 BAC. Cops noted a strong marijuana odor emanating from his vehicle.
