Diamondbacks Promote Prospect, Ditch Veteran

The struggling Arizona Diamondbacks have initiated a roster change, calling up their top prospect, outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt, from Triple-A Reno. This move occurred as the team faced a challenging period, having lost 11 of their last 15 games, bringing their season record to 17-19.

In conjunction with Waldschmidt's promotion, the Diamondbacks have designated veteran outfielder Alek Thomas for assignment. The 23-year-old Waldschmidt had been performing well in Triple-A, posting a .289 batting average with three home runs and a .877 OPS. Thomas, 26, struggled offensively this season, hitting .181 over 100 plate appearances, despite his recognized defensive skills and past postseason heroics.
