Bears Land Linebacker Steal: Bush's Deal a Bargain?
11 Mar
Summary
- Devin Bush signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Bears.
- He recorded 125 tackles and three interceptions in his breakout season.
- Bush's contract ranks fifth among linebackers this offseason.

The Chicago Bears have acquired linebacker Devin Bush on a three-year, $30 million contract, a move widely considered their most impactful of free agency's opening day. This deal, with an average annual value of $10 million, places Bush tied for 19th among linebackers, a modest sum given his recent performance.
Bush, 27, is coming off a career-best season with the Browns, where he achieved Pro Football Focus's fourth-highest linebacker grade (87.6). He was one of few linebackers to record at least 100 tackles (125) and three interceptions, also contributing two sacks and eight pass deflections.
Despite this breakout year, Bush's contract ranked fifth among free-agent linebackers this offseason. His past performance, including being a first-round disappointment for the Steelers after being drafted 10th overall in 2019, may have contributed to a less competitive market.
His athleticism, evidenced by a 4.43-second 40-yard dash, complements his speed-based game, particularly in coverage where he earned an 80.4 PFF grade. This signing aligns with the Bears' stated goal of increasing speed on defense.
