Tigers' Báez Moves Rehab to Toledo

Javier Báez of the Detroit Tigers has advanced his recovery process by moving his rehab assignment to Toledo this past Saturday. The veteran utility man was initially placed on the injured list in late April due to a right ankle sprain and was subsequently transferred to the 60-day IL on June 11. His last game in Major League Baseball was on April 28 against the Atlanta Braves. Before his injury, Báez had appeared in 24 games, posting a .256 batting average with two home runs and a .677 OPS.

Báez's professional journey began when the Chicago Cubs drafted him ninth overall in the 2011 MLB draft. He spent eight seasons with the Cubs before being traded to the New York Mets in July 2021. He then signed with the Tigers as a free agent in December of that year. His most notable season was in 2018, earning him an All-Star selection, where he hit 34 home runs and drove in 111 runs. Since commencing his rehab assignment, Báez has maintained a .250 batting average with a .750 OPS.
