Ravens Star Henry Eyes Another Award

Derrick Henry is positioning himself for a strong bid for the Offensive Player of the Year award in the upcoming 2026 NFL season. Henry previously won the award in 2020 and came close to a second win in 2024, falling just 79 yards short of a 2,000-yard season with 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Several factors could contribute to Henry's candidacy. His consistent dominance in the red zone, marked by eight consecutive seasons with double-digit touchdowns, remains a significant asset. Additionally, potential improvements in the Ravens' interior offensive line, particularly at guard with Vega Ioane and John Simpson, could open more running lanes. New offensive coordinator Declan Doyle's detailed and creative approach is also expected to benefit Henry, especially in crucial late-game situations.

The landscape of NFL awards might also favor Henry. With the MVP award increasingly dominated by quarterbacks, Offensive Player of the Year often serves as the platform to recognize elite non-quarterback performances. Given that no non-quarterback has won MVP since 2012, voters may see OPOY as the appropriate recognition for a player of Henry's caliber.

Furthermore, the Ravens' bolstered receiving corps, including emerging talents like Ja'Kobi Lane and Justice Hill, could help manage Henry's workload throughout the season. This strategic distribution of carries may keep him fresher for the critical late-season and playoff pushes. Ultimately, Henry's proven track record and the potential enhancements to the Ravens' offense make him a formidable candidate for the 2026 Offensive Player of the Year award.
