Colorado football coach Deion Sanders is enhancing his mobility with a custom prosthetic. Sanders recently received a fitting for a silicone product to replace two toes on his left foot, which were amputated in 2021. This procedure stemmed from complications related to blood clots that led to multiple surgeries and part of his calf being removed.
The custom toes are designed to improve Sanders' balance, alignment, and gait. They will also allow his shoes to fit properly, fulfilling his desire to enjoy his extensive shoe collection. This development comes as Sanders, 58, continues to manage health challenges, including a previous cancer diagnosis, from which he is now cancer-free.
Athletic trainers noted the prosthetic could be customized to match his skin tone and scars. The fabrication process is expected to take approximately eight weeks. Sanders is set to begin his fourth season coaching at Colorado on September 3rd.
