Dixon's Dean Geiger finally claimed victory in the Reagan Run 5K, crossing the finish line with a winning time of 15 minutes, 32.22 seconds. This marked his first win in his 12th year running the race, which began at Ronald Reagan's boyhood home. Over 1,600 participants gathered for the event, which experienced a 90-minute delay due to rain on July 4, 2026.
The 3.1-mile race course was also notable for its inclusion of a new pedestrian bridge over the Rock River. Geiger expressed his satisfaction, stating, "My goal was to win." He plans to continue his running career by participating in the NAMI Sauk Area 5K in Sterling next Saturday.
On the women's side, Peoria native Brenna Detra finished first with a time of 18:44.4, narrowly beating Rock Falls' Ariel Hernandez, who came in at 18:46.6. Detra, a former University of Wisconsin runner, found the competition intense, describing it as "a real back-and-forth" before securing her win, even ripping her shoe in the process.
Other notable Dixon runners included Keegan Shirley, Averick Wiseman, and Aaron Conderman, who finished second, third, and fourth respectively among the men. Sterling grad Sam Janssen took fifth place. The event is a highlight of the local Petunia Festival.
