Racer's 'Gay Voice' Impersonation Sparks Suspension
18 Mar
Summary
- NASCAR driver Daniel Dye suspended indefinitely for mocking IndyCar rival's voice.
- Dye's apology cited careless words and a lack of awareness.
- This incident follows a prior battery charge dismissal for Dye.

NASCAR Truck Series driver Daniel Dye faces an indefinite suspension from both NASCAR and his team, Kaulig Racing. The disciplinary action stems from comments made during a sports card livestream where Dye impersonated IndyCar driver David Malukas' voice, calling it "gay." This behavior has also resulted in mandatory sensitivity training for Dye.
Dye issued an apology, acknowledging his words were careless and insensitive. He expressed regret for upsetting people and stated his intention was not to cause harm. He also noted that he has friends in the LGBTQ+ community and wishes to represent himself better.
This is not Dye's first brush with controversy. In April 2022, he was arrested on a battery charge, which was later dismissed after he completed a deferred prosecution agreement. In the racing world, Malukas is currently sixth in the IndyCar standings, while Dye is thirteenth in the NASCAR Truck Series.
