According to reports, the 5-time champions are now targeting young all-rounder Washington Sundar as Ashwin's potential successor.
Ashwin, who rejoined CSK after a 9-year hiatus, featured in 9 matches last season, taking 7 wickets at an average of 40.42. There had been speculation about a potential trade involving Ashwin and Sanju Samson, but the veteran's decision to retire from the IPL has effectively put those rumors to rest.
With Ashwin's departure, CSK is now looking to bring in Sundar, who has struggled to find a consistent spot in the playing XI of the Gujarat Titans (GT) last season. Sundar featured in only 6 matches, bowling just 65 deliveries for 2 wickets and scoring 133 runs at a strike rate of 166.25.
The report suggests that GT have agreed to release Sundar without imposing any conditions, allowing CSK to secure his services for the same ₹3.2 crore price tag.
