Cowboys Tackle Woes: Can Williams Be The Answer?
6 Jul
Summary
- Steele has struggled for three seasons, allowing numerous sacks and pressures.
- Guyton showed improvement but still needs development at tackle.
- Jonah Williams, a former top pick, is available and could add competition.

The Dallas Cowboys' offensive line is a key area of concern for the upcoming 2026 season, particularly at the tackle positions.
Terence Steele has completed three consecutive seasons with disappointing performance, giving up 8 sacks and 54 pressures in 2023, followed by 9 sacks and 41 pressures in 2024, and 6 sacks and 52 pressures in 2025. He also incurred 21 penalties over this span.
Tyler Guyton allowed 6 sacks and 26 pressures in 15 games during his 2024 rookie year. In 10 games last season, he surrendered 2 sacks and 31 pressures. While Guyton's run-blocking grades improved from 51.3 in 2024 to 64.9 in 2025, his pass-blocking requires further enhancement.
Currently, competition is limited, with Guyton receiving the majority of first-team reps at left tackle over Nate Thomas. The Cowboys are reportedly connected to available free agent offensive tackle Jonah Williams.
Williams, a former 11th overall pick, has experienced an inconsistent career. He has started 79 NFL games but has struggled with pass protection, allowing over eight sacks and 40 pressures in three seasons. Injuries have also limited him to six and nine games in the past two seasons.
Despite Williams' injury history and past performance concerns, he could offer valuable experience as a swing tackle or depth piece for the Cowboys. With limited and unproven options like Nate Thomas and rookie Drew Shelton, signing Williams to a potentially inexpensive deal for training camp presents little risk for Dallas.
