The Dallas Cowboys have added depth to their running back position by re-signing Emari Demercado to the practice squad. This move was announced on Tuesday via an update on X (formerly Twitter). Demercado, a former TCU Horned Frogs star, was initially claimed by the Cowboys off waivers in August.
Before joining Dallas, Demercado played three seasons for the Arizona Cardinals from 2023 to 2025. During his tenure with the Cardinals, he recorded 819 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 126 carries, alongside 324 receiving yards and a touchdown on 50 receptions. He has already made appearances in two games for the Cowboys in 2026.
Demercado contributed seven rushing yards in Week 1 against the New York Giants and added eight rushing yards in a subsequent win over the Washington Commanders. He is currently viewed as insurance for the Cowboys' backfield. Javonte Williams currently leads the team's rushing efforts with 276 yards and six touchdowns through five weeks, with Tyler Goodson serving as the chief backup.
