- Courtois questions Ballon d'Or criteria regarding trophies.
Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid's goalkeeper, has stated that winning the upcoming El Clasico at the Camp Nou would deliver a powerful statement. This sentiment arises from Real Madrid's recent less-than-stellar record in this high-stakes fixture.
Courtois articulated his perspective on respecting opposing players, noting a perceived difference in how his team acknowledges Barcelona's talent compared to the reciprocal sentiment. He suggested that Real Madrid readily names Barcelona players, indicating a level of respect that might differ.
Addressing the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, Courtois offered a nuanced view. He pondered the criteria, questioning whether winning major trophies or displaying unparalleled individual performance should be the deciding factor. He referenced Kylian Mbappé's exceptional individual talent contrasted with Lamine Yamal's success in winning titles, prompting reflection on the award's core values.
