Arizona Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll recently provided a significant boost to the Nike RBI program by surprising 48 young athletes with brand-new equipment. The senior baseball, junior baseball, and girls' softball teams received uniforms, cleats, and travel gear as they prepared for their Western Regional tournament. These teams have since departed for Portland to compete for the West Regional title from July 16-19, 2026.
The Nike RBI program, a Major League Baseball initiative, offers free baseball and softball to youth aged 5-18 in underserved communities. Divisions eligible for tournament play include senior baseball (16-18), junior baseball (13-15), and girls' softball (14-18). The Diamondbacks' RBI teams have shown remarkable success, with the senior baseball team winning its region for three consecutive seasons and securing a World Series title in 2025. The girls' softball team also claimed the West region championship in 2025.
This program not only develops athletic skills but also offers exposure to scouts, creating opportunities for higher education. Adolfo Pacheco, an alumnus of the 2025 senior baseball championship squad, leveraged his RBI experience for a college opportunity at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, with a future roster spot at Arizona State University. Pacheco recently returned to Salt River Fields to mentor the current RBI teams, sharing tips and encouragement.
