In a move to elevate its NBA coverage, Prime Video has enlisted the talents of renowned musician Common, along with producers James Poyser and Karriem Riggins, to compose a new theme song for its programming. The track, titled "Victory," was recorded at Ocean Way Studio in Nashville with a 70-piece orchestra.
According to Amina Hussein, the executive producer of NBA on Prime, the new theme needed to be "timeless, modern, and fun" to match the experience they want to provide for viewers. Common, Poyser, and Riggins have delivered on that vision, crafting a piece of music that "expresses the togetherness, soul, fun, creativity, and spirit of the NBA."
The trio has created three different versions of the song - the main orchestral version, a hip-hop interpretation, and a rock rendition. The final score, mixed by engineer Manny Marroquin, will debut during Prime's first NBA games on opening night, October 24.
"Basketball and music are two of my greatest loves," Common said in a statement. "As Black artists coming from where we come from, creating the theme song for the NBA on Prime is one of the greatest moments of my career."
