Colts QBs Shine in Indoor Red Zone Drills
16 Aug
Summary
- Daniel Jones impressed with strong throws and playmaking ability.
- Josh Downs made a leaping touchdown catch despite hamstring tightness.
- Wide receiver depth remains a concern with key players injured.

With inclement weather shifting practice indoors, the Indianapolis Colts focused on red zone drills. Starting quarterback Daniel Jones showcased his ability to read defenses and deliver accurate passes in tight spaces, connecting for multiple touchdown throws. He completed 7-of-14 passes, notably a 20-yard touchdown to Tyler Warren and a 10-yard score to Josh Downs, who later returned after experiencing hamstring tightness.
The competition for the second-string quarterback position saw Anthony Richardson Sr. and Riley Leonard splitting reps, with both managing five completions. Richardson threw a touchdown pass to Will Mallory, while Leonard connected with Raylen Sharpe and Deion Burks for scores.
The Colts continue to evaluate their wide receiver depth, with Alec Pierce sidelined due to ankle surgery. Several players are competing for the WR3 spot, including Nick Westbrook-Ikhene, Ashton Dulin, and Laquon Treadwell. The team also hosted several free agent receivers for workouts.
Injuries continue to impact the roster, with first-round pick C.J. Allen missing practice due to a hamstring issue. Cornerback Charvarius Ward was also absent, allowing Cam Taylor-Britt increased repetitions. The Colts have three more practices scheduled at Grand Park before joint practices with the Atlanta Falcons.
