Colts Eye Texas Tech LB Jacob Rodriguez for 2026 Draft

Linebacker remains a critical position of need for the Indianapolis Colts heading into the 2026 NFL Draft. Texas Tech's Jacob Rodriguez has surfaced as a prospect who could address this significant gap. Veteran analyst Greg Cosell recently lauded Rodriguez's game, noting his exceptional ability to maintain form on defensive plays and execute effective run fits. Cosell also highlighted Rodriguez's surprisingly strong athletic testing, which better reflects his on-field performance.

Rodriguez's statistics further support his potential, ranking as one of PFF's top run defenders. He also demonstrated solid coverage skills with four interceptions and seven forced fumbles. His 4.57 40-yard dash time and a Relative Athletic Score of 9.60 indicate significant athletic upside. Despite recent free-agent additions, the Colts' linebacker corps lacks experience, making depth and competition paramount. Many mock drafts project Rodriguez to be selected in the late first round, potentially within reach of the Colts' 47th overall pick.
