Collingwood Premiership Star Mason Cox Signs with Fremantle as Backup Ruck
18 Nov
Summary
- Collingwood confirms Mason Cox will not be at the club in 2026
- Cox to join Fremantle as a supplemental selection period (SSP) recruit
- Cox likely to be insurance for Fremantle's dominant ruck duo of Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson

In a move that will see a familiar face don a new jersey, Collingwood premiership player Mason Cox is set to join Fremantle as a supplemental selection period (SSP) recruit. The 34-year-old was informed last month that he would not be at the Magpies in 2026, despite playing in both of the team's finals games this year.
Now, Cox finds himself heading west, where he will likely be insurance for Fremantle's dominant ruck pairing of Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson. The tall forward was selected in just 10 games for Collingwood in 2025, managing only four goals. His tenure at the Magpies ends after 139 games and 127 goals, with the 2023 premiership and his famous 2018 preliminary final performance against Richmond being the highlights of his career.
Fremantle will add Cox to their rookie list when the SSP period opens later this month, providing them with valuable depth and experience in the ruck department as they look to build on their recent success.
