The opening week of college football has ignited early conversations about the College Football Playoff, with several unexpected outcomes shaping the landscape. The playoff structure has been adjusted for the upcoming season, featuring a 12-team field.
Four automatic bids are reserved for the champions of the Power Four conferences: the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC. Additionally, the highest-ranked team from the Group of Six conferences—comprising the American, Sun Belt, MAC, Pac-12, Mountain West, and C-USA—will secure an automatic berth, irrespective of their conference championship status.
The remaining seven spots in the playoff will be allocated as at-large bids to the next seven highest-ranked teams. Following Week 1, early projections include Ohio State, Miami, LSU, and Texas Tech as projected power conference champions, with Boise State leading the Group of Six.
