2 Jan
Summary
- Starting QB Brendan Sorsby entered the transfer portal on December 15.
- Sorsby is not injured and is opting out of the Liberty Bowl.
- Backup Brady Lichtenberg will start at quarterback for the Bearcats.

Cincinnati Bearcats starting quarterback Brendan Sorsby will not participate in the Liberty Bowl against Navy on January 1. Sorsby, who previously transferred to Cincinnati from Indiana after the 2023 season, announced on December 15 that he was entering the transfer portal for the second time in his collegiate career. He is not sidelined due to injury.
The decision means backup quarterback Brady Lichtenberg will make his first start since 2023. Lichtenberg has completed 4-of-6 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in two appearances this season for the Bearcats. Offensive coordinator Brad Glenn described Lichtenberg as a "pro" who is prepared to lead the team.
Sorsby, a five-star recruit, is considered the top quarterback in the transfer portal. He has reportedly drawn interest from major programs like Miami, LSU, and Texas Tech as the transfer portal window opened on January 2. Samaj Jones is also expected to see playing time at quarterback during the bowl game.
